Two Dane County men charged with armed robbery of Fitchburg bank

Two men from Dane County are in federal custody following charges related to an armed robbery at a bank in Fitchburg. Parish Barbary-Wheatherby, 29, from Madison, and Daryle Shelton, 22, from Windsor, have been indicted for armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during the crime. The indictment alleges that they committed the robbery on December 2, 2024. Additionally, Barbary-Wheatherby faces charges for possessing three firearms as a felon on December 19, 2024.

Shelton was apprehended today in Windsor after a police chase and made his initial appearance in federal court in Madison. Upon arrest, he was found with a loaded firearm. Barbary-Wheatherby was arrested earlier on December 19, 2024, in Fitchburg. Both remain detained pending further legal proceedings.

If convicted of armed bank robbery, both face up to 25 years in prison. The charge of brandishing a firearm carries a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years and could lead to life imprisonment. The felon-in-possession charge against Barbary-Wheatherby could result in up to 15 years of incarceration.

The investigation leading to these charges involved multiple agencies: the Fitchburg Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the ATF Madison Crime Gun Task Force. This task force includes agents from ATF and officers from local agencies such as Dane County and Clark County Sheriff's Offices and police departments from Fitchburg, Madison, Sun Prairie, and La Crosse. Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger is prosecuting the case.

Authorities remind the public that "a charge is merely an accusation" and emphasize that "a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty."
