The United States Department of State held a virtual meeting on January 16 with international partners and allies to discuss security assistance for Lebanon. This discussion is aimed at supporting Lebanon's efforts to implement the cessation of hostilities with Israel, which was announced on November 26, 2024.
In this context, the United States has committed to providing over $117 million in new security assistance. This funding will support the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and Internal Security Forces (ISF). The objective is to help these forces assert Lebanese sovereignty across the nation and fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701. This resolution is considered the only viable framework for establishing a durable security arrangement between Lebanon and Israel.
The announcement underscores the United States' commitment to working with its partners and allies. The aim is to ensure that Lebanon receives the necessary support to enhance both internal and regional security.
