Felon sentenced for possessing firearm during bar altercation

Duane A. Evans, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced the sentencing of Travis Jordan, a 39-year-old resident of Orleans Parish, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place on January 17, 2025, following violations of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8).

Jordan received a sentence of 21 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, he is required to pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

Court documents reveal that on February 18, 2024, Jordan was refused entry into the Saint Bar in Orleans Parish due to intoxication. An altercation ensued with an employee during which a firearm fell from Jordan's waistband. As he attempted to retrieve it, other employees intervened and secured the weapon before restraining Jordan until police arrived.

This case falls under the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program—a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local entities aimed at reducing violent crime through evidence-based strategies. PSN emphasizes enforcement against violent offenders while partnering with prevention and reentry programs for sustainable crime reduction.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the New Orleans Police Department for their efforts in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell from the Violent Crime Unit prosecuted the case.
