U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Tyran Adams, 34, from Harvey, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute tapentadol. The plea was entered on January 16, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon.
Adams was arrested on June 18, 2024, for possessing 200 tablets of tapentadol. He faces a potential sentence of up to twenty years in prison, a fine of up to $1 million, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. Sentencing is scheduled for April 24, 2025.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering trust and legitimacy within communities and supporting organizations that work to prevent violence. The Department launched a strategy on May 26, 2021, enhancing PSN's focus on strategic enforcement priorities and measuring results.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation - New Orleans Gang Task Force. Special Assistant United States Attorney James Ollinger and Assistant United States Attorney Mike Trummel are leading the prosecution.
