A man from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Levi Allen Doolin, has been sentenced to 260 months in federal prison. The sentencing follows his guilty plea on June 26, 2024, to three counts of aiding and abetting false statements during the purchase of firearms. In September 2023, Doolin assisted his then-girlfriend, Jasmin Fox, who had already been sentenced in federal court. She purchased multiple firearms for others and himself.
Evidence presented at the sentencing hearing revealed that Doolin used one of these firearms in two separate shooting incidents and a robbery in Cedar Rapids. Additionally, it was shown that he previously possessed firearms as a drug user while under high-risk supervision. The sentencing judge remarked on Doolin's "out of control" behavior due to his serious criminal history.
United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Doolin to consecutive terms totaling 260 months—120 months for two counts and an additional 20 months for the third count. Following his imprisonment, Doolin will serve a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole available in the federal system.
Doolin remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he is transferred to a federal prison.
The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin. The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Cedar Rapids Police Department, and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a strategy to enhance PSN with principles such as fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
