Avante Greene, a 23-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to five years in prison for a series of burglaries at Lululemon stores last July. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Superior Court Judge Andrea Hertzfeld also imposed one year of supervised probation on Greene, who had pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted second-degree burglary on October 31, 2024.
According to evidence presented by the government, Greene's crime spree began on July 10, 2024. He entered a Lululemon store on F Street NW with an empty bag, filled it with merchandise, and escaped using a getaway car. On July 12, he repeated this act at the Georgetown Lululemon store with two unidentified accomplices. The spree continued on July 16 when Greene returned to the F Street NW location with another accomplice and again fled with stolen goods in a getaway vehicle. In total, Greene stole over $10,000 worth of merchandise.
Greene was apprehended on July 19 while driving the getaway car and has remained in custody since his arrest.
U.S. Attorney Martin and Chief Smith praised the efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department investigators involved in the case. They also acknowledged Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn Benton for her role in investigating and prosecuting Greene's case.
