A federal grand jury has indicted Jose Adan Lopez-Guevara, a 37-year-old resident of Baltimore, on charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child sexual abuse material. The indictment includes five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Erek L. Barron, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, announced the indictment alongside Special Agent in Charge Michael S. McCarthy from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr., Superintendent of Maryland State Police (MSP), Chief Robert McCullough from the Baltimore County Police Department, and Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.

The indictment alleges that Lopez-Guevara persuaded, induced, enticed, and coerced a minor male to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of creating visual depictions. It is also alleged that law enforcement found Lopez-Guevara in possession of child sex abuse material on December 12, 2024.

If convicted on the charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, Lopez-Guevara faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and could receive up to 30 years in federal prison for each count. Additionally, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison for possession of child sexual abuse material. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt; those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty through due process.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program coordinates resources across federal, state, and local levels to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.

U.S. Attorney Barron expressed gratitude to HSI, MSP, the Baltimore County Police Department, and the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for their investigative efforts. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul E. Budlow is prosecuting this case.
