Mexican citizen sentenced for illegal reentry into the US

Clifford D. Johnson, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana

Oscar Valdivia-Salas, a 35-year-old Mexican citizen residing in Merrillville, Indiana, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison by United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon. This follows his guilty plea to a felony charge of illegal reentry, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay.

In addition to the prison term, Valdivia-Salas will serve one year of supervised release and is required to pay a $100 special assessment. Case documents reveal that Valdivia-Salas has a prior felony conviction for illegal reentry from the Western District of Missouri and was deported from the United States in 2018.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations with support from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement and Removal Operations. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Emily Morgan.
