Romanian citizen indicted for illegal reentry into the United States

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced the indictment of Nicolae Strava, a 30-year-old Romanian citizen, on charges of illegal reentry into the United States. The federal grand jury issued the indictment on January 23, 2025.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the indictment alleges Strava was deported from the U.S. on April 23, 2019, via Houston, Texas. He is accused of being found in Centre County, Pennsylvania, on September 20, 2024, without legal authorization to reenter.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), with Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger handling prosecution duties.

Under federal law, the maximum penalty for this offense includes two years imprisonment, a fine, and supervised release after serving time. Sentencing is determined by a judge based on federal statutes and guidelines.

It is important to note that indictments are merely allegations. Individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
