Council Bluffs man receives 22-year sentence for methamphetamine distribution

A Council Bluffs resident has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for his involvement in a drug conspiracy. Ricardo De Jesus Guzman-Corona, aged 39 and a Mexican national, was sentenced on January 16, 2025. He was found guilty of facilitating the importation and distribution of methamphetamine to the Omaha/Council Bluffs area over three years while residing in Mexico.

Court documents reveal that Guzman-Corona conspired with individuals linked to the Sinaloa cartel and was responsible for distributing over 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine in the region. Following his imprisonment, he will serve a five-year term of supervised release, as there is no parole available in the federal system.

The announcement came from United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The case involved multiple agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, Council Bluffs Police Department, and Omaha Police Department.

This operation is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) initiative aimed at identifying and dismantling high-level criminal organizations threatening the United States through a collaborative multi-agency approach.
