The Heritage Foundation has expressed its support for Andrew Puzder following his nomination as the United States Ambassador to the European Union. The announcement was made today in Washington.
Dr. Kevin Roberts, president of The Heritage Foundation, commended the decision: "In nominating Andy Puzder as Ambassador to the European Union, President Trump has made a bold and strategic choice. Andy’s proven leadership as a business executive, coupled with his profound understanding of global economic forces, uniquely position him to represent America’s interests in Europe with strength and clarity."
Roberts further emphasized Puzder's commitment to American sovereignty and policies that prioritize national interests. "As a staunch defender of American sovereignty, Andy will unapologetically advance policies that put America first—standing firm against rejoining the Paris Climate Accords, resisting efforts to cede our authority to the World Health Organization, and championing fair trade agreements," he said. He added that Puzder's role would be significant in addressing geopolitical challenges like the conflict in Ukraine.
Victoria Coates, Vice President of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation, also commented on the nomination: "Andy’s nomination as ambassador to the European Union is a critical step in putting ‘America First’ on the world stage." She pointed out Puzder's ability to hold the EU accountable on issues such as NATO defense contributions and support for Ukraine.
Coates highlighted concerns over past foreign policy approaches in Europe: "After four years of failed foreign policy in Europe, Andy will ensure that European policies are aligned with our national interests."
