A federal jury in Lexington has convicted Steven Fellmy, a resident of Waynesburg, Kentucky, for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. The verdict was reached on Thursday.
The case stems from an incident on August 8, 2023, when a Simpsonville Police Department Detective provided an anonymous tip to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office about a significant methamphetamine transport from Anderson County into Mercer County. Following this tip, Fellmy was stopped by a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy. A K9 unit from the Harrodsburg Police Department detected narcotics in Fellmy's vehicle, leading to a search that uncovered 193.5 grams of 95% pure methamphetamine. Additionally, authorities found 9.439 grams of methamphetamine and 22.529 grams of heroin on Fellmy.
The announcement of the jury's decision was made jointly by Carlton S. Shier IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Jim Scott, Special Agent in Charge at the DEA Louisville Field Division; Chief Scott Elder of the Harrodsburg Police Department; Chief Thomas Brummer of the Simpsonville Police Department; and Sheriff Ernie Kelty from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation involved collaboration between the DEA, Harrodsburg Police Department, Simpsonville Police Department, and Mercer County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brittany Baker is handling the prosecution for this case.
Fellmy is set to be sentenced on April 17, 2025. He could face up to life imprisonment with a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years due to a prior felony conviction for a violent crime. The court will consider U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and federal sentencing statutes before determining his sentence.
