President Trump has rescinded the Biden Administration's Executive Order for Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence. This order had initiated a comprehensive government effort to promote responsible AI innovation.

Alexandra Reeve Givens, President and CEO of the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT), commented on the significance of the executive order. "The Executive Order on Artificial Intelligence took a whole-of-government approach to advancing responsible AI innovation," she stated. She noted that since its implementation, agencies have devoted substantial time to creating guidance across various sectors to facilitate AI adoption while safeguarding people's rights and safety. This initiative aligned with bipartisan interest in Congress and reflected priorities similar to those outlined by President Trump during his first term.

Givens emphasized the importance of continuing responsible AI practices despite the order's rescission. "The AI EO played a valuable role in shaping the public and private sectors’ approach to AI at a breakthrough moment for the technology," she said. "But with or without the Order in effect, it’s in everyone’s interest to continue to adopt AI tools in smart, responsible ways and ensure America remains a leader in AI governance."
