McKeesport man pleads guilty to firearm possession

A former McKeesport resident has admitted guilt in a federal firearms case, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. Paul Kirk, aged 29, entered a guilty plea before United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.

The court was informed that on August 22, 2023, Kirk fled from McKeesport Police officers during a traffic stop. He was apprehended shortly after the incident, and officers discovered a loaded handgun in his pocket. Kirk has multiple felony convictions, making it illegal for him to possess firearms or ammunition under federal law.

Judge Bissoon has set the sentencing date for May 29, 2025. The potential maximum sentence includes up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will depend on the severity of the offense and Kirk's prior criminal record.

Until sentencing, Kirk will remain in custody as ordered by the court.

Assistant United States Attorney Michael R. Ball is handling the prosecution of this case. The investigation leading to Kirk's prosecution was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the McKeesport Police Department.
