A Charles City man has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. Jeremy Thomas Scott, 46, received his sentence following a guilty plea on October 17, 2024.
Scott admitted to being a passenger in a van stopped by law enforcement on June 6, 2024, in Cerro Gordo County. Authorities had been tipped off that Scott was traveling from California to Iowa with several pounds of methamphetamine.
During the stop, a K-9 unit detected drugs in the vehicle. Scott confessed to having a meth pipe and claimed ownership of all items in the van. A search revealed approximately four pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a Rice Krispies box.
United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Scott in Sioux City to 90 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release. Federal prisoners are not eligible for parole.
Currently held by the United States Marshal's Service, Scott will be transferred to a federal facility soon.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin Fletcher and investigated by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Iowa State Patrol.
