Guatemalan national indicted for illegal reentry into U.S., faces potential prison sentence

Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida

Fort Myers, Florida – Edgar Rolando Suruy-Xiquin, also known as Marvin Martinez-Vazquez, has been indicted for illegal reentry into the United States. The 30-year-old Guatemalan national faces up to two years in federal prison if convicted. His arraignment took place on January 28, 2025, with a trial date set for March 3, 2025.

The indictment alleges that Suruy-Xiquin was deported from the United States four times previously. After his last removal, he did not obtain permission from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to return. On January 13, 2025, authorities found him voluntarily present in the country.

It is important to note that an indictment is simply a formal charge and does not imply guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is leading the investigation of this case. Assistant United States Attorney Patrick L. Darcey is handling the prosecution.
