David Clay Fowlkes, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas

An Arkansas man has been sentenced to over 10 years in federal prison for drug and firearm offenses. The sentencing took place under Chief Judge Susan O. Hickey at the United States District Court in Hot Springs.

Darryl Lavell Williams, aged 30, from Hot Springs, was arrested on March 7, 2023. Officers from the Hot Springs Police Department observed him carrying a black backpack on East Grand Avenue. Recognizing Williams and aware of his active warrant from the Arkansas Parole Board, officers approached him. Williams attempted to evade capture by discarding the backpack off a bridge but was apprehended shortly after. The backpack contained a loaded Jimenez 9mm handgun and 47 grams of methamphetamine.

On June 5, 2024, Williams pleaded guilty to possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

U.S. Attorney David Clay Fowlkes announced the sentencing outcome.

The case was investigated by the Special Investigation Division of the Hot Springs Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Trent Daniels.
