Gary M. Restaino, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona
Aliyah Robyn Stalder, a 24-year-old resident of Seattle, Washington, has been sentenced to three years of probation following an incident on a flight from Seattle to Phoenix. United States Magistrate Judge Alison S. Bachus delivered the sentence last week after Stalder pleaded guilty to "Assault by Striking, Beating, or Wounding on an Aircraft" on November 14, 2024.
The court's decision includes restrictions on Stalder's ability to travel by commercial aircraft without prior approval during her probation period. Additionally, she must pay a $5,000 civil penalty imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration and over $8,000 in restitution for her actions.
The incident occurred on February 9, 2023. During the flight, Stalder attempted to open multiple cabin doors and was eventually restrained by flight crew members and passengers. In the process of being restrained, she assaulted a flight attendant.
The investigation into the case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Phoenix Police Department. The prosecution was managed by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona in Phoenix.
