Estill County man sentenced to over seven years for distributing oxycodone

An Irvine, Kentucky man, Chad Newman, has been sentenced to 87 months in prison for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute oxycodone. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Robert E. Wier.

Newman, aged 40, had entered a plea agreement admitting that from January 1, 2019, until April 11, 2023, he conspired with others to distribute oxycodone pills across several counties including Madison, Estill, Laurel, Clay, and Knox. During this period, Newman acquired oxycodone 30 mg pills from a supplier in Louisville and sold them to mid-and lower-level drug traffickers and users throughout Southeast Kentucky.

Federal law mandates that Newman serve at least 85 percent of his prison term. After completing his sentence, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years.

The sentencing was announced by Carlton S. Shier IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Jim Scott of the DEA Louisville Field Division; Col. Phillip Burnett from the Kentucky State Police; and Sheriff Chris Flynn of the Estill County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation into Newman's activities was conducted by multiple agencies including the DEA, KSP (Kentucky State Police), Madison County Drug Task Force, and Estill County Sheriff's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sam Dotson prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
