Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida
A Guatemalan national, Pedro Alberto Martin-Xon, has been indicted for illegal reentry into the United States after deportation. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg in Jacksonville, Florida. Martin-Xon, aged 24, faces a potential maximum sentence of two years in federal prison if found guilty. His arraignment is scheduled for February 6, 2025.
The indictment states that Martin-Xon was deported from the United States on January 3, 2019. He did not obtain permission from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reenter the country. On January 26, 2025, authorities discovered him voluntarily present in St. Johns County.
An indictment is a formal accusation of federal criminal law violations and does not imply guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
The case is under investigation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection along with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Elisibeth Adams is handling the prosecution.
