Two members of the Cameron Street gang have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in drug trafficking activities linked to a violent criminal enterprise in the Boston area. James Rodrigues, also known as "Bummy," and Devante Lopes, known as "D-Lopes," were sentenced by U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young.
Rodrigues, 34, from Boston, received a 42-month prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty on January 16, 2025. His charges included conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise and conspiracy to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine.
Lopes, 31, from Boston and Quincy, was sentenced to 60 months in prison with three years of supervised release. In May 2024, he pleaded guilty to RICO conspiracy; conspiracy to distribute marijuana; and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
A two-year investigation identified both men as active members of the Cameron Street gang involved primarily in drug trafficking. Rodrigues collaborated with other gang members to distribute large quantities of cocaine from a stash house in Somerville. Law enforcement conducted controlled purchases from Rodrigues during this period.
Lopes played a significant role in drug trafficking between 2019 and 2020 by importing marijuana via mail from California to Massachusetts. He shipped cash back in return packages containing $40,000-$50,000 each time. Law enforcement intercepted one package intended for Lopes containing over two kilograms of marijuana.
During searches conducted at Lopes' residence in April 2022, authorities seized cocaine along with paraphernalia related to drug distribution. Hidden compartments containing cash and ammunition were discovered alongside surveillance equipment throughout his apartment.
The Cameron Street gang is known for its involvement in various criminal activities across Dorchester and nearby areas including murders; armed robberies; human trafficking; carjackings among others according to court documents.
U.S Attorney Leah B Foley made today's announcement alongside officials such as James M Ferguson (Special Agent-in-Charge at Bureau Alcohol Tobacco Firearms Explosives), Stephen Belleau (Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Drug Enforcement Administration) among others who assisted during this operation coordinated under Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Strike Force Initiative aimed at disrupting significant traffickers across jurisdictions using intelligence-driven approaches led by prosecutors working closely together within co-located teams comprised multiple agencies focusing on dismantling high-level organizations threatening United States security interests globally through concerted efforts targeting money laundering networks gangs transnational criminals alike effectively
