The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced an extension for veterans transitioning to a new online login system. This change aims to enhance the security and efficiency of accessing VA health care and benefits information.
In July, the VA declared plans to phase out My HealtheVet and DS Logon sign-in options, introducing Login.gov and ID.me as replacements. These new systems are designed to offer stronger protections for veterans, families, and caregivers.
With the latest announcement, the deadline for veterans and beneficiaries to log in using their My HealtheVet username and password has been extended from January 31, 2025, to March 4, 2025. However, the deadline for switching from DS Logon to ID.me or Login.gov remains September 30, 2025.
Currently, most VA beneficiaries have already adopted Login.gov and ID.me for accessing My HealtheVet and other digital services offered by the VA. The department intends to use this additional time to facilitate a smooth transition for as many veterans and beneficiaries as possible before retiring the old system on March 4. To assist with this transition, increased outreach efforts will be made, including providing in-person assistance at VA Medical Centers nationwide.
