U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Progreso Port of Entry apprehended a man wanted for an aggravated sexual assault offense against a child. The arrest occurred over the weekend when CBP officers encountered Gumaro Rodriguez, 40, a U.S. citizen, during routine checks.

Acting Port Director Jorge Galvan stated, "Our frontline officers exhibited resolute vigilance at the port and apprehended a man wanted on a felony sex offense involving a child." He emphasized that such apprehensions highlight the crucial role CBP officers play in maintaining border security.

On February 1, 2025, Rodriguez was referred for secondary inspection at the Progreso International Bridge. During this process, officers used biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases to confirm his identity. They discovered an outstanding felony arrest warrant issued by the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office in Corpus Christi, Texas. Following his identification, Rodriguez was transported by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department to Hidalgo County Jail to await legal proceedings.

The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is instrumental in sharing information among law enforcement agencies about outstanding warrants for various offenses. This database has enabled CBP officers to arrest individuals wanted for serious crimes such as homicide, robbery, and narcotics distribution. It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations until proven guilty in court.
