The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado has announced the conviction of Bryan Cornwell, a 41-year-old former resident of Norwood, Colorado. A federal jury found Cornwell guilty on two counts of transmitting threats in interstate commerce. He was acquitted on a third count.
During the trial, evidence showed that between late August and late October 2023, Cornwell sent over 80 emails containing graphic and threatening messages to a law enforcement official. These emails included threats to kill and seriously injure the official, with repeated statements such as “I AM GOING TO KILL YOU.” At the time of sending these messages, Cornwell was awaiting sentencing for a previous case where he admitted to threatening to blow up the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office.
Cornwell is scheduled for sentencing on April 2, 2025, in Durango, Colorado.
The trial was presided over by United States District Court Judge Gordon P. Gallagher. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey Graves led the prosecution.
