Mexican national sentenced for illegal reentry into US

Duane A. Evans, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana

Maurilio Jastinto-Juarez, a 50-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced on January 27, 2025, for illegal reentry into the United States after removal. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans. Jastinto-Juarez received a sentence of six months in prison, one year of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Court documents reveal that Jastinto-Juarez illegally reentered the United States after being removed on December 16, 2022. His presence in the country was detected when the Department of Homeland Security systems were alerted through his fingerprints collected by the Louisiana State Police (LSP). The LSP had obtained his fingerprints following his arrest for driving while intoxicated in Houma, Louisiana, on March 17, 2024.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended the efforts of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Louisiana State Police, and the Terrebonne Sheriff's Office in investigating this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K.D. Guice Jr., from the General Crimes Unit, led the prosecution.
