Doug Burgum has begun his role as the 55th Secretary of the Interior, initiating efforts to promote American energy independence and manage public lands responsibly. On his first day, he signed six Secretary's Orders aligned with President Trump's agenda to enhance U.S. energy dominance.

One significant action was signing Secretary’s Order 3417, "Addressing the National Energy Emergency," which focuses on ensuring a reliable and affordable energy supply. The Department will identify legal authorities to expedite domestic energy resource development.

Secretary’s Order 3418 aligns with President Trump’s policy by encouraging exploration on federal lands and waters. It reviews previous actions that might hinder domestic energy development and examines appropriations from recent acts for consistency with Trump's policies.

Secretary’s Order 3419 addresses living costs by reviewing programs causing higher expenses for families, aiming to reduce them by eliminating certain climate policies.

Order 3420 complies with Trump’s revocation of Biden-era withdrawals from oil and gas leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf, resuming leasing activities there.

Secretary’s Order 3421 supports Trump's deregulation agenda by reducing existing regulations and streamlining financial management within the Department.

Finally, Order 3422 focuses on maximizing Alaska's natural resources development, reinstating prior orders favoring resource exploitation in Alaska.

These initiatives under Burgum's leadership aim at fostering responsible resource management while promoting economic growth and innovation.
