Mexican man indicted for illegal re-entry after seven previous removals

A Mexican national has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for illegal re-entry into the United States, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. The indictment charges Dario Fortunato-Torres, 37, with the offense.

The indictment reveals that Fortunato-Torres was discovered in the district in October 2024 after having been removed from the U.S. seven times between September 2013 and October 2017. Records indicate that he was charged by the Moon Township Police Department on October 8, 2024, for alleged conduct occurring on October 1, 2024. Subsequently, he was arrested on November 19, 2024, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) concerning this charge.

If convicted, Fortunato-Torres faces a maximum sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 or both. The actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offense and his prior criminal history under federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski is leading the prosecution for this case. The investigation resulting in the indictment was conducted by ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
