Burlington, Vermont – The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont has announced the sentencing of Nitin Mishra, a 33-year-old from Jaipur, India. Mishra was sentenced on February 3, 2025, for his role in an international drug trafficking operation involving controlled substances such as Tapentadol and Tramadol. He had been extradited from Albania to face these charges in the United States.

Mishra received a sentence of time served from United States District Judge William K. Sessions III after having spent about 28 months in custody. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $7,300 in forfeiture.

Court records indicate that from early 2019 until June 2021, Mishra conspired with two residents of Vermont and others to send shipments of controlled substances into the United States. These included opioids and misbranded drugs. Mishra collaborated with co-conspirators to distribute these drugs across the country. The conspiracy involved tens of thousands of pills, including Schedule II substance Tapentadol and Schedule IV substances Tramadol, Carisoprodol, and Zolpidem.

Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher praised the efforts of several agencies involved in the investigation: the Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Criminal Investigations, Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Rutland City Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorney Andrew C. Gilman prosecuted the case. Robert L. Sussman represented Mishra.
