House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, Defense Subcommittee Chairman Ken Calvert, and Vice Chair and National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee Chairman Mario Díaz-Balart have expressed their support for President Trump's National Security Presidential Memorandum. This memorandum aims to reestablish maximum pressure on Iran, focusing on denying the nation any path to developing nuclear weapons and countering its influence abroad.
In a joint statement, the three chairmen emphasized the perceived threat posed by Iran. They stated: “The Iranian regime isn’t shy about its desire to destroy America. We fully support President Trump’s maximum pressure strategy to confront Iranian threats and deny their nuclear ambitions."
The statement continued with a strong endorsement of the current administration's approach: "With new leadership in the White House, this rogue state sponsor of terror will no longer be able to exploit weakness and pursue destabilizing actions without consequence."
By emphasizing the need to target resources that Iran allegedly uses for supporting terrorism and pursuing weaponry, the chairmen underscored their commitment to prioritizing U.S. interests. They concluded with a warning: "U.S. enemies are on notice - and deterrence and strength will lead to a safer and stronger future for all.”
