Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., has announced the launch of its new AWS Asia Pacific (Thailand) Region. This development provides more options for developers, startups, and enterprises in Thailand to run applications and store data locally. AWS plans to invest over $5 billion in Thailand as part of this initiative.
The construction and operation of the new region are expected to contribute approximately $10 billion to Thailand's GDP and support over 11,000 full-time-equivalent jobs annually. "I would like to extend my appreciation to Amazon Web Services for investing in the development of data centers in Thailand," said Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand.
Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of Infrastructure Services at AWS, stated that the new region will help customers deploy advanced applications with a broad set of AWS technologies. The region comprises three Availability Zones designed for business continuity and low latency.
The announcement has been welcomed by various Thai organizations using AWS services. Pochara Vanaratseath from Bank of Ayudhya highlighted how AWS plays a critical role in their cloud program. Thanasorn Jaidee from Charoen Pokphand Group emphasized the alignment with their digital transformation goals.
AWS continues its commitment to sustainability with efforts to increase energy efficiency in its data centers. A report by Accenture suggests that AWS infrastructure is significantly more efficient than on-premises solutions.
Since 2006, AWS has been expanding its cloud services globally, now offering over 240 fully featured services across 111 Availability Zones worldwide.
