The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) has extended its congratulations to Scott Turner following his confirmation by the United States Senate as the Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Shannon McGahn, NAR's Chief Advocacy Officer, expressed support for Turner's new role.
"The National Association of REALTORS congratulates Scott Turner on his confirmation to lead the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development," said McGahn. She emphasized the importance of HUD programs in providing Americans with access to safe, decent, and affordable housing. Highlighting Turner's background as a former Texas House Representative and Executive Director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, McGahn noted his understanding of housing access and homeownership's impact on individual and community health.
McGahn also pointed out Turner's dedication to economic opportunities for low-income communities through initiatives like the Opportunity Zone Program. "NAR is eager to work with Mr. Turner to further HUD's mission to expand homeownership in America and create strong, sustainable communities," she added.
At a time when housing inventory shortages have exacerbated affordability issues, McGahn underscored the critical role HUD programs play in overcoming barriers to affordable rental housing, sustainable homeownership, and generational wealth creation.
The National Association of REALTORS is recognized as America's largest trade association involved in residential and commercial real estate. The term REALTOR identifies members who adhere to NAR's Code of Ethics. More information about navigating homebuying processes can be found at facts.realtor.
