Omaha man sentenced for selling fentanyl over two years

United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Dre’Shaun Burns, 31, from Omaha, Nebraska, received a sentence on January 30, 2025. The sentencing took place in federal court in Omaha for charges of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm related to drug trafficking. Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. sentenced Burns to 168 months in prison. In the federal system, parole is not available. Following his release from prison, Burns will undergo a five-year term of supervised release.

Between April 2020 and June 2022, Burns sold fentanyl analogue to confidential informants more than twelve times. On June 16, 2022, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the residence of Burns’s mother in Omaha as part of their investigation. During the search, authorities recovered 371 grams of fentanyl analogue near two firearms. DNA evidence linked Burns to both the drugs and the firearms.
