A Dulce man has entered a guilty plea in a domestic assault case, admitting to attacking the victim during an argument. According to court documents, Orlyn Vigil, 48, who is an enrolled member of the Jicarilla Apache Nation, confessed that on November 16, 2021, he assaulted Jane Doe amid a dispute.
Vigil acknowledged that his actions included striking Jane Doe, placing his hands around her neck, and throwing her into trash cans. This caused her head to hit the bar of the trash can holder. As Jane Doe attempted to leave and call for police assistance, Vigil pushed her down from behind. Furthermore, as she walked toward her vehicle, Vigil used his vehicle to knock her over at a slow speed.
Vigil will remain on conditional release until sentencing occurs. The date for sentencing has not been scheduled yet; however, he could face up to ten years in prison.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez. The investigation was conducted by the Jicarilla Apache Police Department with Assistant United States Attorneys Mia Ulibarri-Rubin and Nicholas J. Marshall handling prosecution duties.
