A federal judge has sentenced a federal inmate, Christopher McCallum, to 51 months in prison for assaulting a corrections officer. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton Peeples.
The sentence follows McCallum's guilty plea in September 2024 to the charge of assaulting an officer. U.S. District Court Judge R. David Proctor handed down the sentence.
According to the plea agreement, McCallum was serving a sentence at FCI Talladega for a prior federal conviction when the incident occurred on February 29, 2024. McCallum became disruptive, approached staff with clenched fists, and assaulted a female corrections officer by punching her in the head and upper torso area. The officer sustained multiple injuries as a result.
The FBI conducted the investigation into the case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad Felton handled the prosecution.
