Former labor union official pleads guilty to embezzlement

A resident of Freedom, Pennsylvania, has admitted to embezzling union assets in a federal court. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti made the announcement regarding Vincent Wolf, 57, who pleaded guilty before United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan.

Wolf served as the financial secretary for the United Steelworkers Local Union 623 in Freedom from April 2013 through April 2021. His responsibilities included maintaining financial records, preparing annual reports, and issuing payments for union officers' salaries and expenses. Following an audit conducted after his re-election loss, it was discovered that Wolf had omitted disbursements he made to himself from these records. The methods used included writing union checks to himself, making ATM withdrawals, and using the union debit card for personal expenses such as lunch and alcohol. The total amount embezzled was determined to be $14,695.

Judge Horan has scheduled sentencing for June 4, 2025. The law stipulates a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 or twice the gross pecuniary gain to Wolf or both. The actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna is handling the prosecution on behalf of the government. The investigation leading to Wolf's prosecution was conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
