The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced the appointment of Michael Martucci as the Regional Administrator for EPA Region 2. The announcement was made by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, following President Donald J. Trump's decision to appoint Martucci to the position.
Martucci will oversee environmental initiatives across New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and eight federally recognized Indian Nations. "As a businessman, state senator, and community leader, Mike Martucci has proven he is committed to service," said Zeldin. "In the New York State Senate, he championed legislation aimed at improving our environment and advancing conservation."
Martucci expressed his enthusiasm for his new role: “I am honored to have been chosen for this role and just a few weeks into my job I am already impressed with the professionalism, thoughtfulness and dedication of the EPA’s regional workforce.”
A former New York State Senator from Hudson Valley, Martucci supported various environmental measures during his tenure in office. He is also known for founding a school transportation company that expanded significantly under his leadership.
Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino praised Martucci's commitment to public service: “Mike Martucci is a dedicated public servant and successful small business owner who understands the real-world impact of government policy.” Congressman Pat Ryan echoed these sentiments: “I’ve known Mike for years – he deeply loves our Hudson Valley community and is a ‘get stuff done’ type of leader.”
New York State Senate Minority Leader Bob Orrt stated: “Mike proved himself as a dedicated public servant... I am confident he will serve both the EPA and the people of New York well in this new role.”
Heather Mulligan from The Business Council of NY described Martucci as an excellent addition to EPA leadership due to his experience in both business and state legislation on environmental issues.
Laurie Ramie from the Upper Delaware Council noted that Martucci had been responsive in advocating for environmental support within river valley communities.
