A Vicksburg man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for firearm possession as a convicted felon. Marquette Cornell McCroy, 43, was found with a firearm following a traffic stop in Vicksburg. As the driver and only person in the vehicle, McCroy attempted to flee on foot and discarded the firearm.
McCroy had previously been convicted of a felony, making it illegal for him to possess firearms. He was indicted by a federal grand jury and entered a guilty plea on October 3, 2024.
The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon and Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The case was investigated by the Vicksburg Police Department and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Bert Carraway prosecuting.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The initiative emphasizes trust-building within communities, support for community-based violence prevention organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and results measurement.
