On February 7, 2025, Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State of the United States, issued a statement in recognition of Grenada's 51st anniversary of independence. In his message, Rubio extended congratulations on behalf of the United States.
He highlighted Grenada's commitment to addressing transnational threats such as drug trafficking and illegal migration. "Grenada’s dedication to combating transnational threats—such as drug trafficking and illegal migration—remains critical to regional security," Rubio stated. The collaboration between the United States and Grenada under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative aims to dismantle criminal networks that pose risks to stability and economic growth.
Rubio also mentioned efforts to counter malign influences, including those from the Chinese Communist Party. "Our nations recognize the importance of countering malign influence, including the destabilizing tactics of the Chinese Communist Party, as a means of protecting democratic values and its national sovereignty," he said. He expressed optimism about ongoing cooperation on mutual priorities that benefit both countries.
In addition, Rubio addressed Grenada's recovery efforts following Hurricane Beryl. He offered condolences from the United States for those affected by the disaster: "As you rebuild from the destructive aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, the United States extends our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those lost in that tragedy."
The statement concluded with well wishes for Grenada on its Independence Day: "The United States wishes Grenada and all its people a very happy Independence Day."
