Chad Dickerson, a 34-year-old resident of Brighton, Illinois, was sentenced to three years in prison on February 6, 2025. The sentencing followed his guilty plea on September 4, 2024, for possessing firearms as a felon. In addition to the prison term, Dickerson will undergo supervised release for another three years.
During the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Colleen R. Lawless noted that Dickerson had four fully loaded firearms in his possession. The statutory penalties for this offense include up to 15 years of imprisonment, up to three years of supervised release, and fines reaching $250,000.
The investigation was conducted by the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah E. Seberger represented the government in prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. Launched on May 26, 2021, the Department's strategy under PSN focuses on building community trust and legitimacy while supporting organizations that prevent violence.
