U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge in Texas seized cocaine valued at over $1 million during a recent enforcement action. The incident occurred on February 7, when a CBP officer directed a 2014 Chevy Captiva for further inspection.
During the secondary examination, which involved CBP canines and a non-intrusive inspection system, officers discovered 35 packages containing approximately 82.36 pounds of cocaine hidden within the vehicle. The street value of the narcotics is estimated to exceed $1,099,000.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry commented on the operation: "Our frontline CBP officers continue to exhibit excellence honed by their inspection skills and use of technology which yielded this significant load of cocaine."
Following the discovery, CBP confiscated both the narcotics and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents arrested a 34-year-old male Mexican citizen who was driving the vehicle and have launched a criminal investigation into the matter.
