U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the General Services Administration (GSA), and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have announced a partnership for infrastructure improvements at the Los Indios Land Port of Entry (LPOE) in Los Indios, Texas.

The project, part of CBP’s Donations Acceptance Program, involves TxDOT donating infrastructure enhancements. These include concrete pavement, canopy, booths, signage, fencing, and striping at the northeast corner of the LPOE. The improvements aim to connect the LPOE with the State of Texas Border Safety Inspection Facility (BSIF) in Cameron County, Texas. This connection is expected to expedite commercial traffic flow from Mexico to the United States.

"Through public-private partnerships, our investments in infrastructure improvements at the Los Indios LPOE not only streamline traffic flow and reduce border wait times but also enhance commerce, improve connectivity, and strengthen communities — transforming barriers into bridges of opportunity," said CBP’s Acting Executive Assistant Commissioner, Diane J. Sabatino.

The Donation Acceptance Agreement finalizes this long-anticipated project and will facilitate transformative infrastructure upgrades. Benefits include increased throughput by allowing commercial vehicles to drive forward into the state-mandated inspection facility instead of backing in. Additionally, an extra wide load lane, booth, and canopy will be added to increase vehicle discharge capacity from the LPOE.

Under 6 U.S.C. § 301a and more broadly under the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (6 U.S.C. §§ 112 et seq.), CBP and GSA can accept donations from private sector and government entities for port of entry construction and maintenance activities.

Public-private partnerships are essential to CBP’s Resource Optimization Strategy as they enable new or expanded services at domestic ports of entry. More information can be found at www.cbp.gov/DAP.

CBP is America's largest law enforcement organization and first unified border management agency with over 65,000 personnel safeguarding America on land, air, and sea while facilitating lawful travel and trade.
