Ohio man admits to unlawful firearm possession

William J. Ihlenfeld, II U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia

Rodney S. Knotts, a 55-year-old resident of Ravenna, Ohio, has confessed to unlawfully possessing firearms. Court documents reveal that Knotts had eight firearms in Ritchie County, West Virginia. Due to a previous felony drug conviction in Ohio, he is prohibited from owning firearms.

Knotts could face a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William Rhee. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The proceedings were overseen by U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi.
