Michele Beckwith Acting U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California
Aaron Michael Correia, a 38-year-old resident of San Joaquin County, has been sentenced to five years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.
Court documents revealed that Correia was found with a loaded .22 Ruger revolver and a box of .22 caliber ammunition during a traffic stop. Due to his multiple state felony convictions, including those from 2017 and 2021 for similar offenses in San Joaquin County, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The investigation involved the Manteca Police Department, the Stockton Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Haddy Abouzeid handled the prosecution.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program emphasizes trust-building within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
