Utah man sentenced for distributing child sexual abuse images

Trina A. Higgins, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Utah

Randall Walker Holland, a 51-year-old resident of West Jordan, Utah, has been sentenced to seven years in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release. This sentence comes after Holland admitted to distributing images of child sexual abuse.

Court documents and statements from Holland's change of plea and sentencing hearing reveal that between May 2 and May 9, 2024, he used his cellphone to communicate with someone he believed was abusing a 12-year-old victim. Unbeknownst to him, the individual was an undercover officer. During these communications, Holland sent over 1,000 video files containing child sexual abuse materials and expressed interest in engaging in sexual acts with the minor. He was arrested upon arriving at a predetermined meeting location.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Trina A. Higgins for the District of Utah. The investigation was conducted by the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Carol A. Dain prosecuted the case on behalf of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project involves collaboration among federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute offenders while identifying and rescuing victims.
