On February 12, 2025, the American Medical Association (AMA) honored Jennifer Green, a public health official from North Carolina, with the Government Service Award. The recognition highlights her significant contributions to public health in Cumberland County.

"Across the country, local public health officials played a critical role in combatting COVID-19, educating local communities, and saving lives. Jennifer Green epitomizes that commitment and leadership," stated AMA Board Chair Michael Suk. He further added that it was an honor to present her with the award for her dedication to improving lives during and beyond the pandemic and for her creative approach to addressing public health challenges.

Cumberland County Commissioner Glenn Adams nominated Green for the award. "Dr. Green has provided exemplary care to our citizens with innovative programs and ideas," he said. "She has had a tremendous impact on the lives of our citizens and the health of our county."

Green's efforts extend beyond managing the COVID-19 pandemic. She initiated several programs including opening a WIC clinic to promote healthy mothers and babies, launching Healthy Conversations to train barbers and stylists as health advocates in under-resourced communities, creating a Maternal Health project focused on healthcare disparities among mothers of color, and leading initiatives against the opioid epidemic by working towards establishing a recovery resource center.

Jennifer Green holds a Bachelor's Degree and Master of Public Health (MPH) from Baylor University and earned her PhD in Health Promotion Sciences from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
