Artists showcase AI creativity at Paris summit

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The AI Action Summit in Paris recently featured a collaboration between artists and organizations to explore the creative potential of artificial intelligence. The event, organized by the Ministry of Culture with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in France, included contributions from various partners such as the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BnF), Fisheye Immersive, Convergence, and Institut Montaigne.

Two notable AI-generated art installations were showcased at the summit. Tokyo-based VFX artist Ruben Fro collaborated with Mehdi Mejri, an immersive art director at Fisheye, to create "Deep Diving." This audiovisual piece utilized Meta’s open source models like SAM 2 to visualize BnF's book and document delivery system. The installation was projected onto a library tower, displayed inside BnF, and shown on an LED screen outside. "Deep Diving" will be available for viewing for one week during the AI Action Summit.

Additionally, Benjamin Bardou, a French visual artist and filmmaker, presented "AI-Generated Memories," which recreated notable paintings and oil pastels by Edgar Degas using AI technology. These pieces premiered at NEO 612, an event combining technology and art hosted by Convergence and Institut Montaigne. The artworks will also be exhibited at the Musée des Arts et Métiers.

These projects highlight how open source AI can serve as a new medium for creative expression. Further information about these initiatives is available through interviews with the artists on the AI at Meta blog.
