U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers from the Area Port of Seattle intercepted a shipment containing over one pound of fentanyl on February 6th. The seizure occurred during a targeted enforcement operation at a shipping facility.
The officers identified and opened a package originating from Canada, where they found a brown rock-like substance in plastic bags. Testing confirmed the presence of fentanyl in the substance.
"Fentanyl is an extremely dangerous synthetic drug that plagues our communities," stated Rene Ortega, Area Port Director – Seattle. "CBP uses a variety of techniques to keep our nation safe. Targeted operations in shipping facilities help keep dangerous narcotics and synthetic drugs off our streets and out of our communities."
CBP is recognized as the largest U.S. law enforcement agency, playing a crucial role in detecting, identifying, and seizing illicit drugs to prevent them from entering the country. This effort helps protect friends, family, colleagues, and community members from the threat posed by these substances.
As America's frontline defense, CBP is the nation's largest law enforcement organization and operates as the world's first unified border management agency. With over 65,000 personnel, CBP ensures safety on land, air, and sea while facilitating lawful travel and trade to support economic prosperity. The agency aims to enhance national security through innovation, intelligence gathering, collaboration with partners, and building trust within communities.
