TechNet has expressed support for the establishment of a new data privacy working group by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This announcement was made by Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie and Vice Chairman John Joyce, M.D. The working group aims to create a national data privacy framework.

Carl Holshouser, Executive Vice President of TechNet, stated: “We applaud Chairman Guthrie, Vice Chairman Joyce, and members of the Energy and Commerce Committee for their leadership in launching this critical effort to develop a national data privacy framework."

Holshouser emphasized the need for "a comprehensive, uniform federal standard" to protect Americans' online rights and maintain consumer trust. He pointed out that with 20 state privacy laws already enacted, the current situation is challenging for consumers and burdensome for small businesses.

TechNet has been advocating for a national privacy law that would provide consistent rules across states. Holshouser added: “This working group represents an important step toward getting a comprehensive, bipartisan privacy law across the finish line.”

As part of United for Privacy, which includes over 30 organizations aiming to pass a national privacy law, TechNet continues its efforts to establish a single national standard.
