Fort Wayne man receives 180-month sentence for firearm possession

Clifford D. Johnson, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana

Jonathon Buck Eason, a 37-year-old resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana, has been sentenced to 180 months in prison by United States District Court Chief Judge Holly Brady. The sentence follows Eason's guilty plea for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay announced the sentencing.

Eason will also face two years of supervised release following his prison term. The case documents reveal that on October 22, 2022, Fort Wayne police officers responded to a 911 call reporting an individual being battered and threatened with a firearm by Eason. Officers found Eason at his residence and recovered a firearm from his pocket. Due to a prior felony conviction, Eason was prohibited from possessing the weapon.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted the investigation with assistance from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Stacey R. Speith prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a strategy to enhance PSN with principles focusing on community trust and legitimacy, supporting violence prevention organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
