A Dominican man residing in Methuen has been sentenced to prison for illegal reentry into the United States. Santos Guzman, aged 56, received a two-year prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper. Upon completing his sentence, Guzman faces deportation.
In November 2024, Guzman admitted guilt to charges of illegal reentry after being indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2021. A citizen of the Dominican Republic, Guzman's entry into the United States occurred at an unspecified date and location.
Previously convicted in 2019 for two state drug trafficking offenses, Guzman was ordered removed from the U.S. in November 2019 and subsequently deported on January 7, 2020. He later returned to the U.S., again at an unknown time and place, and was arrested in November 2021 on another state drug trafficking charge. Fingerprint comparisons confirmed his identity during this arrest.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director of Boston's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations; and Methuen Police Chief Scott J. McNamara. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of the Major Crimes Unit.
